Corramet® Corrugated Sheets have changed the roof sheeting market forever… But how do they compare to our popular bitumen corrugated sheets? Watch our corrugated comparison video to find out.
Our range of Corrapol®-BT and Awnapol® bitumen roof sheets are loved by installers for their ease of installation and cost-effectiveness. As the lowest-cost corrugated option available, they provide a route for DIYers to fulfil their roofing projects without breaking the bank.
All the corrugated sheets we manufacture are available on fast delivery direct to site and with a range of accessories. Whether it’s a garage, shed or barn roofing project, we will have to products required to complete it to a professional standard.
Both are excellent roofing materials but let’s compare them on the six key buying factors below:
1. Strength & Rigidity of Material
2. Impact Resistance
3. Fixing Options
4. Cost
5. Available Sizes
6. Compatible with Corrapol® Clear Corrugated Sheet
7. Flashing and Ridge Options
1. Strength of Material
One of its standout features – we manufacture Corramet® from a specially formulated plastic compound resin which is class-leading. It ensures excellent strength whilst still retaining the lightweight characteristic of corrugated sheets.
Corrugated bitumen roofing sheets are designed to be a lightweight and easy-to-handle material – which is great for installation. However, means they aren’t as robust. For the most durable bitumen sheet, choose our Awnapol Premium Bitumen Sheets which deliver the best robustness for this type of sheet.
The extra toughness of the Corramet sheeting, in turn, provides a larger spanning capability. On a sensible pitch roof, purlins can be moved further apart to save money and structure build-up.
2. Impact Resistance
Here there is little competition as the Corramet far outclasses the bitumen for impact resistance. Its material provides excellent robustness and puncture resistance.
Watch the video above to see an example hammer drop test!
3. Fixing Options
There are two options for fixings when installing our corrugated bitumen sheets – either corrugated nails or screws. The flexi cap screws offer the best fastening and are more durable so we would recommend these; particularly if using our Awnapol Premium Bitumen Sheets.
Corramet, however, comes with fixings supplied! Not only does this save money but makes ordering these sheets more straightforward. You will receive the right fixings you require per sheet and you can also purchase additional ones if your structure requires more.
4. Cost
Always top of mind, costing is important when purchasing your roofing materials. It is a balance between quality, upfront cost and lifespan – Corramet offers the perfect mix of all three. With fixings included the overall project cost is only a small premium over bitumen sheets but they will long outlast them.
With a simple lifespan versus cost calculation, you will see that, although bitumen is cheaper initially it will require replacements more often which leads to a much higher lifetime cost.
5. Available Sizes
When it comes to sizing, Corramet® offers an unrivalled selection of different lengths ranging from 1 metre right up to 4 metres. When completing a larger roof project, there are very few long-length sheet options that are available on fast delivery so the 3 and 4 metre Corramet lengths are a popular choice.
On the other hand, Bitumen sheets are primarily used on smaller projects and so have small sheet sizes of 1 and 2 metres long.
6. Compatible with Corrapol® Clear Corrugated Sheet
As with our full selection of corrugated sheets, both Corramet and Corrapol Sheet are compatible with our Clear Corrugated Sheet ranges. This includes our:
Corrapol Stormproof Corrugated Sheets
Corrapol PVC Corrugated Sheets
Corrapol GRP Corrugated Sheets
Interlaying a clear corrugated plastic sheet is a great way to create your own roof light on a roof. Simply swap out one of your corrugated sheets for a clear Corrapol sheet to let the sunlight flood in!
Conclusion – are Corramet or Bitumen Corrugated Sheets best?
Corramet Sheets offer a better roofing solution than bitumen roofing sheets on every level – stronger, available longer and with greater rigidity – making them the sheet of choice. What’s more, with only a small extra cost and extra lifespan they are by far the most cost-effective corrugated sheet available.
