    How to Fit Downpipe

Much like the rest of the Aluflow® Gutter range, the gutter downpipe is designed to be rapid to install.

Not only fast to install but easy for any skill level of installer to complete themselves.

With Aluflow being manufactured from high-quality aluminium, snapping downpipe brackets and discolouring downpipe lengths can become a thing of the past. Once installed, these robust downpipes are there to stay with durable connectors and a strong composition.

The Aluflow® aluminium guttering and downpipe system has a unique patented design that ensures maximum longevity and excellent aesthetics. Small design details, like fitting of the running outlet, make it a truly excellent system to fit on site.

Simply follow the steps below or video above to learn how to fit downpipe.

Please watch our How to install guttering video which explains installing of the guttering elements of the Aluflow® system. In most instances, the main gutters should be installed before the downpipes.

    Tools required to fit downpipes:

    - Appropriate PPE
    - Chop Saw or Hack Saw (with aluminium-suitable blade)
    - Pencil or marker pen
    - Measuring Tape
    - Securbond® Sealant with silicone gun
    - Sustainable Stainless Steel Wall Fixings
    - Drill

    Steps to fit gutter downpipe:

    1. Safety first – please take the necessary H&S precautions
    2. Start by Rock N Locking the Aluflow® Running Outlet in place
    3. Make sure all joints are clean and dry before connecting
    4. Apply Securbond® sealant to all connectors to ensure good waterproofing
    5. Connect a small section of guttering downpipe to the bottom of the running outlet. The length should clear the bottom of the fascia
    6. Silicone and push-fit an offset Downpipe Bend to start the swan neck
    7. Measure another small piece of downpipe to suit the depth of the soffit. Allow for the downpipe on the house wall to sit approximately 35mm off the surface
    8. Then cut the downpipe to size with a chop saw or hack saw, using a suitable metal blade
    9. Secure another Downpipe bend to finish the swan neck
    10. Downpipe brackets should be spaced at approx. 1.5m spacing and directly below any connectors
    11. Make certain that each downpipe clip is fitting snugly around the downpipe. Flex the brackets legs inwards to tighten if needed
    12. Screw the first downpipe bracket to the wall securely with suitable stainless steel fixings
    13. For longer runs, use a downpipe connector to join two downpipes together end-to-end. A downpipe bracket should be installed directly below the connector.
    14. When joining two downpipe runs together use the Y Branch Connector
    15. Finish with a downpipe shoe for a professional look. Alternatively, run the downpipe straight into a surface water drainage system
    16. Always fix a downpipe clip directly above or on the shoe

What are the benefits of installing an aluminium downpipe?

Choosing to fit aluminium downpipe is an increasingly popular choice due their significant benefits over plastic and other metal alternatives: strength, sustainability and lifespan.

Aluminium downpipes offer none of the rust risk of steel or cast iron and all of the benefits of metal guttering, such as long lifespan, strength and durability.

Plastic downpipes look fine on day one but discolour quickly over time with the effects of UV, which in turn brings weakness and increasing brittleness. Selecting Aluflow® aluminium downpipes avoids all these strength and lifespan concerns.

Additionally, using a product manufactured from aluminium rather than oil-based plastic has strong sustainability benefits. A longer lifespan means fewer guttering repairs and replacements and a lower amount of landfill over the years. Once aluminium does reach the end of its lifespan it can be recycled infinitely and reused.

What colours is Aluflow Aluminium Downpipe made in?

We manufacture the Aluflow® downpipe is the three most popular colours as standard: black, grey and white. These are all available via Clear Amber Distribution on our usual rapid delivery service.

As with our other ranges, we also manufacture downpipe in any bespoke colour – simply let us know RAL colour required to suit the project. Comon choices for guttering include creams, pale greens, dark reds, greys and more.
